George Herman Ruth, Jr
Feb. 6, 1895-August 16, 1948. Also known as "Babe", "Bambino", and "The Sultan Of Swat". The Babe played baseball in the American Major League from 1914 to 1935. He is also known as the greatest baseball player in history. His talent to hit homeruns out of the park and his larger than life personality made him a favorite in the 1920's.
The first ever baseball player to hit 60 home runs in a single season, one record that stood for thirty-nine years until Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961. Babe Ruth hit a total of 714 home runs during his lifetime at bat, also a record for thirty-nine years until Hank Aaron slugged away at it in 1974.
Off the baseball field Babe Ruth was known for his charity work and also his wild lifestyle. Babe Ruth is an American Icon and his name still carries on as one of the most Famous in American Sports.
